Sharjah: Man caught on CCTV abusing cats after kittens found dead

Horrific CCTV footage has captured a man brutally killing two young kittens on consecutive mornings outside a restaurant in Sharjah, sparking widespread outrage and a police investigation.

Staff at the House of Grill in the Abu Shagara area discovered the dead kittens on September 22 and 23. Suspecting foul play, the manager reviewed security footage and uncovered the disturbing attacks. The graphic footage, recorded around 6 am on both days, reportedly shows the man violently throwing, stepping on, and slamming the kittens against surfaces after checking to ensure there were no witnesses.

The two kittens, only about 25 days old, belonged to a stray cat cared for by Joseph Lobo, a local salon owner. He has since filed a complaint with Sharjah Police and noted that the grieving mother cat has stopped eating while searching for her babies. Lobo and other residents suspect the same man may be responsible for other recent cases of injured or dead cats in the area.

The video of the abuse has gone viral, shaking the community and prompting calls for authorities to identify and prosecute the individual. Animal welfare advocates have highlighted the incident, urging people to report such cruelty. One rescuer noted, “animal abusers are often domestic abusers, and overall a danger to society.”

This incident has drawn attention to the UAE’s strict animal welfare laws. Under Federal law, the deliberate and unjustified killing, torture, or maltreatment of an animal is illegal. Violators face penalties that can include significant fines of up to Dh200,000 and imprisonment.
